On-Ground Platform

As part of IIMEO, a cloud-based on-ground platform will be created. The functionalities of this platform include data processing, data storage and the provision of user services. During the demonstration phase, the railway monitoring service will be available to users through a web interface. The platform will support multiple user services using different data sources and will allow direct access to data products via Earth observation (EO) services.

Users can access the IIMEO system via the services (i.e. the web front end). In the final development stage of IIMEO, using the services will allow the users to do the following:

  1. Configure and trigger a monitoring task: The user selects a map showing the infrastructures to be monitored (e.g. Open Railway Map) and picks a region or specific part of the infrastructure, e.g. a railway line. This defines a monitoring task, which the user starts. The task details are sent to the IIMEO system, which processes and transmits the commands to the next satellite in the IIMEO small satellite constellation over the selected area.
  2. View and analyse the monitoring task results: After the satellite completes its task, the results are sent to the on-ground platform and made available to the user. The web front end displays detected disruptions on the map, with options to view detailed information such as time, location, change detection results, and overlays of SAR and VIS data.
